The two major inhabited islands in Bass Strait, King Island and Flinders Island, both have their own power generation systems.
For information about energy prices and services please see Powering Bass Strait islands.
Flinders Island Power Station generates solar power and uses diesel generation to ensure reliability in all conditions. Renewable wind energy is also generated through two turbines connected to the grid – one is privately owned.
King Island Advanced Hybrid Power Station is part of an integrated system that generates renewable solar power and uses diesel generation to ensure reliability in all conditions. The Huxley Hill Wind Farm is also a part of the system.
