We recently completed a major $18m upgrade of the central system that allows us to monitor and control most of the State’s hydropower system from Hobart.

Thanks to the use of local contractors and suppliers for upgrading Edgar Dam, the majority of our $35m investment will be returned to the Tasmanian economy. Over 90% of the project budget is being spent on services from businesses located in Tasmania!

Hydro Tasmania and the Cressy Longford Irrigation Scheme (CLIS) have struck a deal that will see irrigators get more water in winter to store and save for summer irrigation. Irrigators will have access to 8,500ML of winter water (up from 5,000ML), taking advantage of the higher water availability during that period.

The Tarraleah hydropower scheme in central Tasmania is one of state’s oldest. With some parts of the scheme more than 80 years old, we’re looking at options for its future. A major redevelopment of Tarraleah would see it generate more clean energy, to help meet the growing demand for energy and power the state for generations to come.

Poatina Power Station’s newly refurbished cranes have been renamed after two Poatina legends - brothers Phillip ‘Flop’ Pulford and Michael ‘Mick’ Pulford. The two Poatina maintenance assistants both marked 40 years with Hydro Tasmania in March this year.
